I can vouch for what Lynn's saying here--I think my great-grandchildren
would have had a shot at being "from" the small town I lived near. My
youngest was born there, his grandchildren _might_ make the cut.

Would I have to move away from the East to find a different reality?

I'd like to say no, but maybe. Calhoun is the same..there's a few families here that have been here since the land lotto in the 1830's. When they have family reunions, half the county goes, and half of the neighboring county, etc. ;)
