Mainly, I'd say, over my view that I am as non-consumerist as anyone in this
country. The travels and experience (details of which I don't want to go
into, but you don't get any more exposed to other cultures than I was) I
think she
dismissed rather than labeled aggrandizement. How people who are in
different cultures, different circumstances, and even speak different
languages react
to the world and its interactions differently has always been a keen interest
of mine. Anyone who wants to lump that very real and stark human reality
into
one overall stand for political correctness (the Soylent Green approach) is
naive and to my mind and my experience has had little or no real exposure to
other cultures.

But as far as the claims of aggrandizement go, this is a list somewhat
vaguely touching on homesteading, supposed to have a bowing acquainance with
self-sufficiency. I have dedicated my time, energy, musings, schemings, my
economy
and the structure of my family to the end of homesteading, self-sufficiency,
and non-consumerism. I do not make excuses, but on the other hand I don't
apologize for it either. It's the main theme of this list, if it were not, I
wouldn't be participating here. I do not participate in the linguistics
lists and
for fake contriteness sake pretend I can't read what people are saying in
other languages. I don't participate in the instrument building list and shy
away
from posting pictures of my projects for humility's sake. And I don't
participate in homesteading lists and feel any compunction to disguise the
fact that
after pursuing non-consumerism for a quarter century that I've made some
successful inroads into the endeavor.
