I lived in the middle of Philadelphia for 17 years. I always had a good
supply of food on hand. I bought fruit and vegetables in season and
canned or froze them. I still do, but now I can raise more of it myself;
I have enough of a lot of things to last till next growing season. Some
things, like eggs, are produced continuously. I still stock up on the
things I buy, and buy in bulk when it's cheap, to save money.

It's not about where you live, being prepared is a way of life. I can
think of a dozen reasons why I might not be able to get to the store or
the store would have a short supply of food. I can't imagine getting
caught without food in the house, or not having contingency plans for
disasters, man-made or natural.
