I totally agree about the alternatives.  It has to be a multi-prong attack.
We have to open up resources, we have to start using alternatives, and we
have to reduce our consumption, one way or another.  I think all of the
candidates are for all of those things.  I did not and don't see a difference
in either side there-Obama is saying the same thing as McCain when it comes
to energy.  I chimed in because I did not see the need to bring Palin's
religious beliefs into the discussion about energy.  Go back and read Don's
comments about Palin.  Obama himself has been the one to say, let's stay with
the issues and keep one's religious beliefs out of it..if he can do it, why
can't his devotees on this list?

And that, too.
Jerry, that makes too much sense.  You should run for President.  Can I write
you in? ;)

Jerry, essentially what you are saying is that we are doomed, already.
Because we will not do the things you say are imperative.  The only possible
way to achieve what you suggest is to give up keep up a life that most will
find acceptable   ---do you really think that people in New York are going to
turn off the lights, people in Phoenix are going to turn off the A/C in
summer; people in Denver are not going to use heating fuel in winter?---I
don't think so......  We will use and burn every last drop of anything that
will burn.

You could be right about what we need to do for long term survival of the
species.  I know other smart people who believe as you believe. And,  I know
other smart people who think that "peak oil" can destroy civilization, and
that global warming is not caused by humans.  I don't know which is correct,
and although I'm curious to know the truth, I don't spend much time worrying
that issue these days.

I'm much more concerned about  my so-called public servants teaming with the
bankers and other money changers to  take away my freedoms as fast as they
are stealing my money.  I would not trust those bastards who recommend
turning off my a/c when they live in 14,000 sq.ft houses and fly around by
private jet.

I watch my use of resources and try to be a good steward of my properties and
of the resources I on which I depend.  But, I have no illusion that my
actions will make a difference.  Most people are out to get what they can get
now, and act accordingly.

You can put a bag of bananas in cage with a bunch of  nasty monkeys and they
will eat the bananas until they are gone.  If you wash and groom the monkeys
and then dress them in Brooks Brothers seersucker suits before you put them
back in the cage, they will still eat all of the bananas.    We will use up
all of the oil.  It is our nature...........................bobford

Finding alternatives for oil/coal/natural gas is imperative. Even then,
given 100% success at this, we are cooked meat unless means are also
found to remove excessive CO2 in the air put there by humans over the
last 100 years. I ................................
. This soon will obviously
overshadow any other challenge we face for survival.  'Peak Oil' is the
best thing we got going for us. "Drill, drill, drill" would be about the
worst, especially in the long run. I am tending to agree with Letterman.

My conclusion is that seeing that as many as possible survive what is
coming  should be our focus.
certain.  Jerry B
