Judy, first, good for you.

But as to the notion that unschooling (or even just homeschooling) "only"
works for committed and dedicated parents .... those are two entirely
different
issues.

Unschooling "works" for every child.

Now, there are dedicated parents and those not dedicated. IMO, if a parent
is not "dedicated", that is, raising a child in a manner that would wreck
their
child's inborn proclivity for learning, they should not be a parent.

It would be like saying, homeshooling doesn't work for some children because
their parents give them so little food, they would be so hungry all day that
learning would be low on their list of priorities. What would you do with
such
a parent? Would not the local CPS coerce the parent into adequately feeding
the child or remove the child?

Same thing in my mind. Children need food, security, etc. AND full rein to
their predisposition to learn. It is a fundamental right. So if it is not
present in the home, there are deeper problems than what "method" of
education
is being used and all the classrooms in the world will not make up for it.

By the bye, unschooling is NOT a "method" of education. If you declined, as
so many do, to have your children vaccinated, how would you answer the
question "What method of not vaccinating do you use?" The question is
meaningless.

Like that, unschoolers identify the thing that is harming their children,
that is, schooling and they don't do it or permit anyone else to do it.
That's
why the notion that children are doing well in government classrooms is so
absurd. Sure they are doing well, well at being schooled! </HTML>
