Your vehicle does NOT run at optimum efficiency between 40 and 20 mph. I did NOT say "punch the car to 60." That's reframing and you know it. You said, paraphrased, that you were lollygagging along because somehow *you* have decided that slow is better. In a motor vehicle, slow is not necessarily better, efficient or ecologically sound.
Seriously, you'd have us believe that someone doing 60 and who would thus take 20 minutes to go the 20 miles is left sitting at a stop light long enough for the fella doing 25 who took almost an hour to get there? You've got a stop light that stays red for 30 or more minutes just so you can get to town and catch up with them? And every speed racer just happens to time it such that they always hit the red light? Come on now, that's as imaginative as the folks who spend the hundreds for the tomato and think they're saving money!

And doing so would be inefficient and use as much fuel as those racing
around.
You apparently didn't read carefully. On these rural roads, if you punch the
car to 60, by the time you arrive in town and must stop at the first traffic
light, you will be in the line with those who went 25 mph. Happens every time.
