Most laptops that I know of can have an external keyboard and monitor attached. I have thought that when I stop I will keep a laptop and get the external monitor and keyboard and use it as a desktop.

I like my desktop because I like being able to rest my arms on the
table and I like having a very large screen.

This brings up another point....some of the laptops I have seen have
screens that are hard for me to see, almost as if I were looking at it
through sunglasses or something. I have the same monitor as I had 10
years ago, so I need to learn about laptop display monitors....are they
LED or what? I, too, would like something large and easy to see, having
just been diagnosed with glaucoma a few months back. (I'm fine for now,
though-just thinking ahead)

One thing I wish I had was a keyboard with an attached trackball.
When I am drafting I spend a lot of time moving hands to the mouse
and then back to keyboard.

I hate that, too. I suppose I should learn more keyboard shortcuts. My
hands are rather large, and I worry that this small, trackball/touchpad
thing would be hard to finesse. Is it not?
