Drew:

<<Of course, if he were wiretapping citizens, you would be correct, but as
the
specific calls being requested at the time were foreign in nature, and a
warrant does not have to be obtained for both parties in a conversation,
this
was almost certainly legal.>>

Except that the US end of the conversation may well have been a citizen.
There's no certainty of legality here at all. Getting a warrant from the
court was not onerous. That the Bush people didn't do that shows a dramatic
disregard of the law.

<< If the govt. wants to tap your phone, they cover
themselves to do so legally, it matters not whom you call. A separate
warrant is
not required.>>

Uh-huh. But they HAVE TO HAVE A WARRANT to listen to your ramblings if you
are in the US.

<<That is a very good choice, Lincoln, during the civil war, disagreed with

the accusations of a particular paper and ordered them siezed and burned,
the
doors locked, and the arrest of the writers, editors, distributors, and Yes,

even the paperboys if they delivered them.>>

Lincoln wasn't thrilled to do that, but he was in the middle of a civil war.
At the present time, we are not. Considering how dire the circumstances were
in Lincoln's time and how judges and citizens opposed Lincoln's actions
despite those circumstances, in comparison Bush's actions are even more
clearly "going over the top."

If you can't manage to worry about Junior, how are you going to feel about a
Democratic president with all the powers that GWB has set forth for
president? Think Hillary. :)
