In France all information that comes out about their nuclear programs is
government controlled. So, the info you get on their programs is what is in their government's best interests. I think it would take more than a grain
of salt with that source.

Believe but verify.

My view is that the French people are okay with the cost of their electricity and if there were accidents the government could not have hushed it up; someone would have noticed and reported.

Disposal of radioactive waste is the primary challenge. France continues to deal with disposal and has found no acceptable long-term plan. Why not put the stuff in rockets and send them toward the sun? At some intermediate point it would disintegrate.
