tvoivozhd---I'm easily confused---too many Robs. I know one Rob has a handheld portable bandsaw you carry to the log---wonderful machine for modest amounts of bandsawing boards, three or four-inch wide roof beams, squared posts.

That's me, it's a Ripsaw ( www.ripsaw.com ). Works great but does have limits, 12" wide (the biggest "I" could do and 9" deep.

tvoivozhd---Hm-m-m, I have a vague memory of the RipSaw advertised as being capable of cutting a 20" log---maybe that was with a chainsaw head on each end of the saw?? You got one powerhead or two? Think they had a hydraulic two-headed drive too, forgot where the engine(s) went, maybe on the ground.

I also have a Granberg Mini-Mill, it attaches to my large chain saw, is used vertical and has a good guide. I can cut consistent straight edges with this. The mini-mill paper work limits it to a 20" bar. Consistent is the key word here, one I couldn't use with the BeamMachine.
It's good to be able to carry it to the tree when you don't have the machinery to carry the tree. It's a lot easier to carry a 20' 2x12 out of the woods (by hand) than a 20' log.
I used the Ripsaw to frame the addition to my old (pos) mobile home back in Minnesota plus lot's of other projects.
