I know others have responded to this, but I, for one, now rip every CD
I get onto my computer...to the point that I rarely use my CD player
anymore, and my turntable even less (even though I probably own over
5000 pieces of music in the various formats!) I know if I can go from
growing up in a vinyl-only world to now preferring digital versions,
then most kids today won't bother buying a CD player...or realizing a
sonic different exists.

Likewise, we also use iTunes primarily for the in-between band music
at Local 506, and I've yet to hear a complaint from any musician or
audience member about such quality. In fact, it's normally the
opposite - we are complemented on our song/band selections because
digital files allow the ability to cater the music more to the show.
Recent examples include playing Archers of Loaf after Kris Roe (who
commented about growing up listening to Archers and Superchunk) or
playing 'Dusty in Memphis' between the equally lush Papercuts and
Beach House Friday - I got several positive comments about that album
choice - no one commented about cringing. And my favorite example was
playing 'Fujiyama Mama' by Wanda Jackson after the band Fujiyama Roll
played recently - that literally popped in my head during their last
song...and they loved it!
