Ahh-so, it all becomes slightly less murky now. So that's your bread on those deceptively-pricey sandwiches? And which of the meats are house-cured?
I mean, I like the beer list and the decor; would like the ambience better if they didn't suffer quite so much from DJ-volume-knob-itis (here's a clue: not all of us are here to listen to you play records), although the somewhat musty back room is quieter.
But I have thus far been unable to bring myself to drop nine bucks on a sandwich in a bar, no matter the order & arrangment of menu keywords.
If you're saying that they *are* worth it (in more than the "well, they're the only decent food after 10 p.m." sense) then I will definitely make a point of dining there again soon.

p.s. for anyone who hasn't been draw mothlike to the Federal already by the promise of music and/or draft beer: http://thefederal.net/
p.p.s. When I said beer list, I meant the following, all on tap:
Tupper's Hop Pocket
Brooklyn Lager (what, no Brown Ale? Dammit)
Rogue Dead Guy
New South Brown Ale
Murphy's Stout
Pyramid Hefeweizen
Shiner Bock (Valhalla lives!)
Old Speckled Hen
Weheinstephan
Harpoon IPA
Not nearly as deep as the Flying Saucer bullpen, but you don't have to go to Raleigh, either. Between Federal and City Beverage, in fact, Durham has suddenly become about 20x more beer-friendly over the past 12 months.

i don't make ice cream for the q-shack anymore. i make bread now, and
that's it, and i don't make any for the q-shack.
rossi--next time you head over to the bbq joint and they are out of 'q,
come on over to durham and try the food at the federal. they don't serve
bbq, but they do serve some out-of-this-world house-cured meats, among other things, cooked up by none other than andy magowan. andy's an excellent cook, and just starting out on his first solo venture, so a little support is in order, i think. plus, they serve great bread!
the federal is just down the road from your old haunt, the bread 'n' kabob. next door to the james joyce.
