I can confirm the router as working. The address I used was 192.168.1.87. The other address on the network is 192.168.1.73. The address I used is within the DHCP range of addresses, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference. Running ifconfig before and after assigning it an IP showed the device eth0. After assigning the IP it displayed eth0 as having the IP. pinging the other machine resulted in nothing (100% packet loss) as I would expect, since best I can tell the router isn't seeing anything connected to it.

When I run cardmgr, it executes "./network start" at the end. My /etc/pcmcia/network file is empty. It just shows "#!/bin/sh" at the top and that's it. Is there supposed to be information in this file?

I tried manually entering one with ifconfig

What address did you assign (using ifconfig)?
What other active addresses are on that network?

After you assign the address, enter:
--------
ifconfig
--------
That should show you that the eth0 interface is alive.

Then ping one of the other active addresses:
-----------------
ping xxx.xx.xxx.x
-----------------
Does that succeed? If not, execute:
--------
ifconfig
--------
And look at the last three lines for any faults.

Cheers,
Steven
