Looks like it:
>From PACKAGES.TXT (4.0) Which I have here:
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
ppp: PPP for Linux, versions 2.2.0f and 2.3.7
ppp:
ppp: PPP for Linux -- Michael Callahan's ppp.c kernel driver and the pppd
ppp: daemon (ported by Al Longyear). Linux PPP support is included as a
ppp: loadable module in the modules.tgz package. This package also
ppp: contains pppsetup, an easy-to-use, user-friendly utility for setting
ppp: up your PPP daemon.

Says in the debian package description that it is even easier
than chat:
Description: PPP dialer with built-in intelligence WvDial
sacrifices some of the flexibility of programs like "chat" in
order to make your dialup configuration easier. When you install
this package, your modem will be detected automatically and
you need to specify just three parameters: the phone number,
username, and password. WvDial knows enough to dial with most
modems and log in to most servers without any other help. In
particular, you no longer need a "chat script" to handle the most
common situations.

Thanks, David.
I'll try that soon if nothing else works.
