OK. Thanks. I just needed to say it.

I don't remember what the compilers are even called, I am not good at
compiling like you seem to be.

Nothing much to it. Just takes a lot of patience and
concentration to choose the right options. Mostly studying
.../kernel-sources/Documentation/, using Configure.help as a
guideline.

Things do not usually work right when compiling with old software in BL.
Half the time I need to change something. For instance busybox programs don't have some required options so I add the full-size one.

I had a great deal of help compiling the
few things I did compile. My kernel is broken in two respects (won't
work with loop linux or udhcpc). I just keep experimenting.

Debian package descriptions:

Package: udhcpc
Priority: optional
It comes with busybox. My busybox also has telnetd and httpd (usable only if you have index.html) but not an ftpd. wu_ftpd?

Package: udhcpd

Description: very small DHCP server DHCP is a protocol like BOOTP
(actually dhcpd includes much of the functionality of BOOTPD!).
It assigns IP addresses to clients based on lease times. This
package is primarily geared towards embedded systems. It does
however, strive to be fully functional, and RFC compliant. . This
is the server-side application.

Do I need this? The router seems to have it, so does the public library.
I don't even need udhcpc once I know the IP address I am connecting to, I can use ifconfig instead.

As for "loop linux", I don't know what you are talking about.

Do you mean running linux inside a loop device? /dev/loop0 etc?
What would be the point?

If you want me to build a kernel for you, just tell me where
the sources are, and the config file. Take about 10 minutes,
max. (Not counting downloading the sources, which takes probably
an hour.)

I would like help figuring out why the kernels I have compiled for 2.4.31 do not work with BL3.40 in loop form but Steven's 2.2.26 and David's 2.4.31 kernels do. Mine also does not work with udhcpc, did not check David's. The config's for mine and his are posted at my site. I can compile a kernel from config in 5 minutes at 600MHz.

I'll transfer it directly to your box with netcat. Very simple.
Very fast. (If you have the source tarball, send it to me that
way too.)

I have dialup. I am not running a server. How would you transfer anything to my computer without my fetching it?
