I didn't even know they _made_ 486 laptops.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, '486, 75 MHz, 16 MB
RAM, but without a network card I have run it with a dial-up
account using a serial modem, running Arachne. It is a bit
slow, but it runs OK on just a few colours.


Sounds fun, actually. I assume you have plenty of swap.

My 486 laptop (Compaq) 12MB RAM and works fine with BL. Even without swap it works fine unless I run Opera.
