  • Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 22:41:35 +0000 (UTC)

Loop BL3.40 with 2.2.26 kernels (I tried three) segfaults after loading all the modules with 'start' : hermes, orinoco, orinoco_cs.
Right after this:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000 . On a laptop and a desktop so it is not the memory or controller but the software.

I compiled pcmcia modules for 2.4.31 using the pcmcia package and answering 'for current kernel' (2.4.31), and tried to copy them to the laptop running loop BL3 and 2.4.31 kernel. R/O file system. With two 2.4.31 kernels, on a laptop and a desktop. Loop linux won't boot at all with 2.2.16. Also, with my 2.4.31 kernels /dev/hda1 is not mounted on /DOS in loop linux. initfs.gz must be kernel specific.

I cannot cd to /DOS with 2.2.26 on the laptop - why? /dev/hda1 is mounted there.

I booted with 2.2.26 and copied the 2.4.31 modules to the pcmcia directory. I rebooted with 2.4.31 and tried again. start: read-only file system, no sockets found. I could manually insert the modules with no segfault, but cardmgr can't even find the cards (in 2.4.31).

I will next make an ext2 partition (and hope Win98 does not die when compressed into only 1.5GB). Or try to set up a firewall in Win98 on a laptop (since Win98 decided to crash every time when encountering the ISA PCMCIA device today, tho it worked yesterday), assign an IP address in Control Panel, Network, and use that IP address as a gateway with 'route' in BL3, assuming a regular network card will fit next to the larger wireless one.

Steven, have you successfully used an orinoco wireless pcmcia card with 2.2.26 and your modules? Has anyone used pcmcia wireless with BL?
