I don't think mplayer enlarges.

If you are using x11, start mplayer with the -zoom option and resize
the window. If you don't want a window manager, start with the -zoom
option and use the -x and -y options to specify a size for the window
(in pixels). e.g. mplayer -zoom -x 640 -y 480 stream.avi.

I tried this, and 640/480 and 800/600 have no effect (with svgalib).

With X11, if I enlarge or maximize the window, the window gets larger but the picture does not, and it is a much smaller picture than with svgalib (running X11 at 1280 resolution - it is larger at 800x600).

The picture quality is not quite as bad when the picture is smaller. I don't know how anyone can watch TV at this low resolution, but I am having fun listening to the Russian and getting a few clues from the picture. Some sitcom. The Russian site low enough bandwidth that it does not cut out, unlike the Italian. How would I increase the buffer size? It starts to play with buffer about 20%.

THe sound continues when I switch terminals but the picture does not (TTL and VGA use the same area of memory).

I keep running across Quicktime and apparently to watch it with Mplayer
(streaming) you need LIVE.com video libraries. What/where are those?

I included them in the last release of MPlayer. Perhaps the version I
used is too old? I was unable to find a version more recent than 2005.

I can view but not hear these files with mplayer, and I can't get them working at all with lynx and lynx.cfg:

VIEWER:video/quicktime:mplayer -ao oss -vo svga -playlist %s
(I also tried without playlist).

The above type of lynx VIEWER line works for streaming realaudio and windows media formats, but for quicktime files it asks :

video/quicktime D)ownload or C)ancel.

http://www.garritan.com/competition/Richard_96.mov
The wmv link at this site does not play, it downloads text.

I can access this directly with mplayer:

Connecting to service...
QuickTime/MOV file format detected.

It plays, without sound. (So did BBC news in wmv or rm format, but
most sites now play with sound via lynx).

Same problem with http://www.drdavedavid.com/VideoClips/opt001du.mov
It plays directly with mplayer, but without sound. 3x5" picture, larger than usual.

Do these sites work for you with lynx or some other browser, and with sound?

Lynx won't play mms:// but mplayer will, however this is http://

Other file formats for Quicktime are apparently .mp4 and .qt.

http://restoremedical.com/videos/56k/myers-symptoms_56k.MOV
(does not work via lynx but neither does the video/x-ms-wmv link at the same site - Download Cancel for that too)

This next site produces sound:

http://press.princeton.edu/video/frankfurt/Q1mod.mov
Lynx wants to download, this time mplayer directly gives video and sound.

What is missing at the sites that don't make sound? Is my connection just too slow for both video and sound? Do I need a newer sound card? I have a 1994 jumpered ISA AWE32.

Other sites offering WMV or QT have files ending in .asp - those don't work in lynx. Mplayer can't access these and lynx just goes back to the same page. What are they?
