I'm not suggesting there is a hardware problem.
I'm suggesting that your insmod did not create eth0.
Perhaps it came up as eth1 ??? Perhaps nothing came up?

You could be right. It looks like busybox might have
a problem with 386sx computers. Unfortunately I have
no 386sx computers to test it on. I have 486, P1 and
P2 computers, and it works fine on those.

The BL3 kernel was compiled for 386sx and up.
AFAIK there is no processor setting in busybox.
The BL3 busybox was statically compiled in uClibc.

No, /etc/protocols is not included in BL3.

Perhaps because nobody is running BL3 on a 386sx (no copro)?
