I think it does 256 colors (8 bit). Unfortunately, Xvesa won't
do 8 bit. However, the SVGA Xserver (from Slackware 4.0) does.

Unfortunately, the BL3 links2 does not do svgalib.

There are non-X text editors that will work.

It would be better to use the loop version to create an ext2
partition and install BL3 to it.
