Thanks Sindi, I also found this online:

getting a lucent LTmodem.The linux drivers are still free and support FAX.
Walmart, Microtel and HP computers that come preloaded with linux all use the
lucent LTmodem."
I could be wrong but I think that if you purchase a lucent modem that
you still have to compile the module(driver) to fit slackware.
