Daniel's view of desolation is somewhat more nuanced than Jeremiah's. The
point of Dan 9 and his seventy weeks is to reinterpret what 'exile' means.
For Daniel, the exile does not end with a return to the land. Rather, exile
ends only with the end of foreign rule over Jerusalem. And since this did not
occur with the returnees in the late 6th century BC, Daniel wants to
reinterpret the entire notion.
