What are Crunchbang's memory requirements?
I find that 600Mhz is the slowest cpu that displays youtube videos
online without being too jerky. Do they play better offline?

One of the things that I dislike about YouTube these days is that the minimum rate for videos is 360p. ?Strangely, Windows still allows streaming at 240p.

Last time I checked, many videos at Youtube were 360 by default with the option of 240.

Gnash or Synfig kind-of work on some linux distros, but as soon as they get close to YouTube's current parameters, YouTube updates its requirements!

What are these?

As it is, when running Damn Small Linux on my P1 machine, I render YouTube videos by running them through VLC, or the KeepVid or Vixy.net websites, converting the flash vids to .avi, and playing them back in Xine or Mplayer. ?In all likelihood, you could do the same in BL3 ... but you must meet your video player's dependencies first.

There is an mplayer-uclibc which works in BL3 but does not support older CPUs such as i586 (including AMD-K6) and P54C (even older). I compiled mplayer for these but without x support (use svgalib or fbdev, less ram). http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/ Upgrade to the SW11 glibc which requires 2.4 kernel (also at my site), which will also support Seamonkey 1.1.x (as well as Firefox 2 from DSL and Opera 9.63 - you can download my firelibs.tgz or operalib.tgz packages and read my blfiles.htm for instructions).

Booting laptops (or other LCD machines) with fb console disables svgalib.
fb console support is found in some 133MHz and lacking in some 233MHz.
Most of my 2.4 kernel include it but you can boot without the vga= line.
Would you play downloaded youtube videos (240p) at 233MHz or less?
svgalib on my 233Mhz without fb only works at 640x480. Why do you want to watch flash videos on machines that slow?

I was unable to play DVDs usefully on my 475MHz K-6 or my 266MHz PII (both i586) with the mplayer for i586 with video support (no x11). I have not tried playing .avi on these (and the former no longer works online). Is it very jerky, or do you use any special switches or resolutions?

Oddly, I AM able to do this in IBM PC-DOS 6.1 on my ANCIENT 486dx2 (!!!) using DUGL Player!!! . ?Perhaps someone can make a project of porting this to Linux, as Cubic .mp3 player was!
