I think it's a problem we'd have to deal with anyways. Largely because even if we did not split our grimoire, we allow other people to create their own, and with growth, I'm seeing more public custom grimiores. If people start using these other grimoire too, we'd still have to deal with this issue.

The other way would be to go completely back to the way we were prior to allowing multiple grimoires.

Maybe, but let me bring FreeBSD as an example. How many alternative "grimoires" does it have? Zero. Is it popular? Yes, much more than SMGL. What I'm saying is that, having a smart update mechanism, we'd consolidate things and remove complexity. Multiple grimoires added complexity, and inter-grimoire dependencies are bringing more complexity on top of this. This doesn't sound like the right way of solving problems, which is to remove complexity.
