That is a very fine essay, just amazing. With this, Elizabeth made a
significant contribution to the evolution or co-evolution *see WEC, CoEQ*
of the Permaculture movement.

Funny thing, and Toby is free to criticize this notion, that in keeping
with Mollison's statement that the only limits to a permaculture design are
any limits to the imagination of the designer,
it is only natural or permanatural that the Zone 00 or 0 concept would come
into being. Specifically, just thinking and wondering about it as a
legitimate Zone used in Permaculture design,
is energizing and opens doors to creativity ad speculation, useful in the
early stages of creating a formal Permaculture Design. I suggest that it is
useful just as Biodynamics is useful,
and enlightening. The fact that one engaging in this process may become
distanced from conventional reality should be no impediment to continuing
along this path as learning, synthesis
of ideas and development of methodology proceed. The more I think about it
the more I like including Zone 00 (why is it 00 and not 0 or does the
latter refer to something else) in the teaching and design process even
though it may not seem "on the ground" practical or "useful" or too much
above the heads of the public-at-large new to permaculture and wanting to
know more about it with hopes of integrating it into their lives. Zone 00
may be a great tool to get people to stop and think, observe and create. In
the news lately was a study about how people often prefer to be shocked
(maybe they meant zapped during a lab experiment) rather than have to spend
much time alone with themselves and their thoughts. Question: Does a Zone
00 have any practical use for the permaculture consultant, teacher or
prospective student? What is you are hired to provide Permaculture
consultation for a site or project? Do you include Zone 00 in the design as
a thought process the client engages in after the design is implemented,
ostensibly to sustain the site and incrementally add to its complexity and
resilience? This is a fascinating discussion!
Steve, your turn.
