They used to be more open. They are a nice family. But they have had an
insular "family only" kind of approach.  It's possible that someone (maybe
their lawyer, who might be getting his "cut" from it) is influencing them
unduly.  And maybe some people did "use" them and take advantage of them,
feeding that perception.  Too bad, in any case. They are doing a good thing
overall; they will lose goodwill with that attitude.  Do they really not see
how they might benefit from your promotion of their work?   Cory

Seems consistent with what I know about them. I asked for permission to use
two of their photos in a presentation. They said I'd need to pay for them.
When I said I would, they said they hadn't expected me to be willing to pay,
and that they'd get back to me. Then they said no, because "their lawyer said
I might benefit from their work in some way."

I told them that I thought the whole point of what we all were doing was to
have others benefit from it. They still said no. This was the first time, in
a hundred or so photo requests that I've made, that someone refused to do it.
It left a bad taste in my mouth.

I read about them a few years ago and was impressed. They seem to have
a lot of things right. A shame, though, that they are t5his way on
this issue. They should be getting good press, and instead, they are
getting the press they deserve. A shame, really.

Oh, and BTW, Toby, you can use any photos of MMRF if you mention where
it was taken! No fees. Maybe some good coffee....
