So that means its all the more important for subsistence economies to
stay that way - feeding their own people and remaining isolated from
international food prices. Yet in certain South West Pacific nations
the expatriate aid advisors demand land reforms (meaning: "selling
land to foreign developers") while at the same time the dominant donor
nations call for free trade (ie: "buy our unhealthy exported food
without applying any import duty, instead of growing your traditional
healthy kae kae").

If only substantial aid funds were available to help make subsistence
agriculture sustainable long term. But that topic is just not sexy,
despite effective techniques for retaining soil fertility having been
recently developed.
