I think there are more than one species with the common name "paw paw". Th one in the tropics is Carica papaya, while the one being discussed here (I think) is Asimina triloba. I eat papaya seeds for intestinal parasites, and feed them to my chickens.
Interestingly, Asimina triloba is in the Annonaceae family, most of which are tropical. We have 8 different species of annonaceae here. I know that many f the annonas have toxic properties in their seed. I had no idea there was a temperate annona!
Correct...and one should NOT eat pawpaw = Asimina triloba anything other than fruit flesh.
