Keith,

Two DIFFERENT sets of instructions, one with unexplained mysterious tags (<nowiki>?)

The <nowiki> string tells the computer to not 'react' when it reads the subsequent text. Otherwise the wiki-engine would read [[category:ONLINE]], not print the text, and assign the whole page to the category:ONLINE. Adding <nowiki> is what allowed me to have the text string "[[category:ONLINE]]" show up on the page as text rather than causing the wiki-engine to run its routine.

WTF is "user scaffolding"?)

Stuff that helps people work on otherwise inaccessible things.. sorry for obtuse metaphor

Well, that just put it at the top of the page and not in the list

The list cannot be affected by editing the page, the list is automatically generated for pages with the name "category:XXX". When you tag a page (any page.. even another category) by including the text "[[category:ONLINE]]" then the tagged page will show up automatically on the list on page 'category:ONLINE'.

what should be a matter of seconds, right?

That's why we love computers so... they are so responsive to our needs.
Hope this helps.

Paul Cereghino
