I'm not talking about "examples", I'm talking about general principles.
You're right that we shouldn't just go copy the arcane habits of some
particular species. :-) But there are some general principles that govern
all life, and all living systems that we can observe. Not many, but a few
- the law of diversity, and the law of limited competition being two chief
among them - both of which help keep the Law of Return going.

Heheh... it IS fun! In fact, I think Permaculture will succeed simply by
showing people that we're having a better time than they are! And I'm
about the farthest thing from a crusty survivalist. In fact, I think
that's my whole point in getting into this discussion - I think it's
strange that any display of argumentativeness causes that person to be
judged as crusty or potentially dangerous. I just think it's silly, and
not worth the energy to blast somebody for that, especially if they have
good ideas and obviously care about the earth and are being attentive to
the discussion. ESPECIALLY on the Internet, where we don't know the people
involved and have no idea in many cases how they really meant something,
whether they might have a problem communicating on this medium, or really
much about them at all.

Hey, people have all different ways of expressing things and it'd be nice
if we could just discuss what they are saying not how they're saying it.
If we ever expect to get along with people of other cultures (just for
example), it would behoove us not to react immediately to what WE perceive
as bad communication.
