Aloha,

And since you have claimed that there are other free/cheap hosting services
out there, and used that as an argument against needing to go with Ibiblio,
I'd appreciate it if you could subtantiate the claim.

To reiterate, I have no beef with using ibiblio IF they can provide us the platforms we want.

All I know about ibiblio is that Lawrence has said over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over that ibiblio is our only option and he has provided no proof that that is the case.

Why aren't you asking *him* to substantiate *his* claims?

Basic information would be stuff like I already mentioned - what are their current funding sources, what is the nature and term of their agreement(s) with UNC entities, how do they go about securing funding into the future and what are their current prospects, and so on.

This is basic business info that any responsible manager would be finding out before entering into a potentially long-term partnership with any other entity - especially one that involves financing, buying and giving them stuff.

If we were all doing all this for free and you weren't going to the trouble of trying to get us money for it I wouldn't give a rat's ass about business concerns.
Since there's money (someone else's no less) involved, I regard this as a business venture that needs to pay attention to at least basic business principles.

As for hosting, change is the only constant - nobody and nothing is around "forever" and inevitably there will be hosting changes.
I don't see that as a problem. It happens all the time in the real world and most often nobody dies and no small animals are harmed.

If any of you are supporting ibiblio because of Lawrence's threats to leave the project I really hope you think about it a bit more.

I'm also really curious why most everyone else seems to agree (by silence if nothing else) that we must go with ibiblio, and why no one else has bothered to offer any more information to substantiate that claim.

Maybe a bad case of groupthink. In which case I am doing my job as test curmudgeon by challenging it.
