Totally. Would you consider going the Zope route if I say by the end
of the year we will either be hosted at ibiblio, we will know the date
by which we will be hosted on ibiblio, or we will have found a long
term hosting solution that even you agree is as good or better than
ibiblio (this one's not likely I admit)? If by the end of the year we
haven't satisfied these conditions you would have every right to
curse, throw things, and walk out, etc.
-Yes, but what I am willing to do is continue development of my Permaculture
Knowledgebase
-and store my colection of info and graphics there. I can select material
-from this location for submission to pcinfodb. I am only willing to sideline
my PK
-when we are hosted on ibiblio. I still am with Rich for using MySQL
-but the platform decision is up to you four.
I've changed my mind after thinking more about what you proposed. No, I would
not support Zope
anywhere other than ibiblio and it may be years before they offer it. Have
you asked them if they would be interested in our
giving them the money they would need to buy, install and maintain their own
dedicated Zope server?
Instead, I support Rich's preference for MySQL, Eden, etc. on ibiblio and
propose that you use what they have to offer.
I think this will produce better software for us than Zope. Rich's idea about
the database accessing indexed mailing list archives,
wiki resources and perhaps other material, is an important one. It sounds to
me that Zope has serious limitations on the user end.
As soon as permaculture.info is transferred to PI I would like to have
ibiblio set up an account for us and begin hosting
permaculture.info, even if it is only just a website, wiki, mailing list. If
you are willing to use their software then begin work there
as soon as possible. If they will allow us to provide a Zope system and if we
have funding to do that, and Rich is willing to use Zope,
that is another option but not one I support.
