Ed, Pecans from seed are incredibly variable. Unless you're willing to take up growing space for twenty years before you know what sort of nuts the tree will produce, you're better off with nursery stock of a named variety. If you are really still interested in finding pecans to plant for your local area, I suggest you find some trees in a local State Park and visit them around harvest time. Also, you could try visiting the nearest Indian reservation and trying to find someone who still retains some traditional knowledge to help you find some trees, though I wouldn't expect too warm a reception.

Does anyone have or know who might have some pecan seeds whose origin is in Southern WI, or Northern Illinois, northern Iowa, Southern MN, Northern NE, any site with a similar growing season as Southern WI?
Thanks!
