Victor
I live near Beaumont and have several small paw paw trees.
Two are named varieties from a place in Kentucky and one is a clump of
seedlings I just dug up that originated from near the Sabine river here in
Texas. They are a long way from bearing.
When in the spring do yours bud out?
When in the fall do yours bear?
How do you rate the flavor?

I chose Bud 9 as the primary dwarfing stock for my nursery due to winter
hardiness, survivability, yield efficiency, and fruit size. Apparantly it is
also more resistant to collar rot :

"Compared to M.9, B.9 is . . . even more resistant to collar rot."
U of Kentucky, Dwight Wolfe, Gerald R. Brown, John Strang and Terry Jones
http://www.ca.uky.edu/agc/pubs/ho/ho82/ho82.htm

The most resistant rootstock (to crown rot)is M.9.

Penn State Department of Plant Pathology
Jim Travis

A perhaps minor discrepancy is that the U of Kentucky quote above states
that B9 is "more resistant to collar rot when, by the U of W Virginia
definition below, collar rot is a disease of the "scion portion of the
tree". Apparently, the two terms are used interchangeably by some, I believe
it is the same disease though, just a different term for the area affected.

Collar rot symptoms occur on the scion portion of the tree near the graft
union, while symptoms on the root stock are referred to as crown rot.
