I agree with Jeff, Hiking poles come in very handy. Also, wear boots that
you can walk in. Nothing worse then trying to walk out wearing cowboy
boots.

About 1/6 your weight--very reasonable. Many backpackers shoot for about
1/4 their weight.

Keep that sleeping bag dry. I would put a garbage bag in the stuff sack and
then stuff the bag in it. I use a lightweight dry bag. Down is useless
when wet.
