I carry the usual ton of stuff. There are 4 water bottle holders on the
pommel for small bicycle style bottles and 2 1.5 liter bottles. They have
push pull nozzles and screw off tops. In the Summer they are frozen before
a ride.

The saddle bags have 3 compartments, a cantle bag and two sides with splits.

Hi Irv,
That is big list of things you carry. I also have a similar bag, in fact our group had them custom made so that we could extra compartments inside and most importantly, 12 sets of D rings. However my wife has been getting on me about too much weight over the horses kidneys. Back up her point she handed me the most recent Trail Rider Magazine and showed me a short article about less is the best policy. The short paragraph states:

"Go Light
The worst possible location to carry weight is behind the saddle, over your horse's kidneys. Large saddlebags and saddle packs designed to carry overnight camping gear tempt you to fill them with unneeded items, to the possible detriment of your horse. Keep your saddlebags small and light. If you must carry heavier items, such as water bottles, etc. select pommel or horn packs that fit on the front of the saddle. "

Personally, I really don't believe this theory.
