Tried Paradai and Cherokee both for the first time last year. Performed very well in our late summer heat (Puget Sound), which is probably more like late spring in other parts of the US. Was surprised at how long they both held and how deep the color was. Unfortunately, that deep red, almost solid burgundy color was actually off-putting to our clientele. They chose New Red Fire (my staple red) 10-1 over either of the other reds.

I haven't tried that particular lettuce, but we've had really good luck with all of the Summer Crisp varieties. My favorites are Nevada and Cherokee, but the one that outperforms both of those has been Sierra. It's not as pretty, but it handles both heat and cold better than any other lettuce we've tried. We get seed for Sierra from Rupp.

I have a very specific question regarding this topic...

Anyone grow Lovelock OR 5042OROP  from Seedway?  Similar from Johnny's would be Teide Summercrisp from Johnny's #2759?  We've got the Seedway variety inbound and we are doing three beds of 12 varieties to see how several other varieties compare in June, July, and August.

Supposedly these are excellent summertime lettuces in terms of handling heat.
