There's profitable, then there is making a living. Profitable just means
getting back more than you put into it. I farm (pasture-raised beef and
some eggs and vegetables sold from a farmstand), and I turn a profit of
$3,000-4,000 in a good year.

I do it alone and have children and a sick mother, so it isn't full time,
but takes a lot of my time and effort in season. Do the math; I'd have to
put forth 5
times the effort I currently do to make even a modest living at it....I
don't have 5 times the effort in me.
