Now there's a question about
Coleman's operation, whether he set out to show the most profit from 1 1/2

a youngster anymore and the numbers might be different if he was doing most
of the labor himself. Not likely tho with a speaking schedule. As for the
land not costing him anything, consider that quite a few people can get or
already have 1 1/2 acre as part of their home place, so land may not even
be a cost.

I don't think he set out to do anything other than farm for farming's sake. He is doing a lot of  labor himself, though. He said he spent 10-12 hours a day, 7 days a week working on the farm (aside from the occasional talk, I presume) and that's in addition to 4 young'ns scurrying around and earning their paychecks. He did mention that his wife spends a lot of time on the farm as well, when she can, especially on cut flowers.

As far as land is concerned, he has the 1.5 acres in production spread out across a 20 acre or so farm. Costs are costs, whether the cost of the land is wrapped up in his existing mortgage or not. Nonetheless, I get your point. I just don't readily relate to it because I've never had the privilege of living in a home with a backyard, myself, so to me land always registers as a cost.
