I don't mind a dog that barks at "things" (people, animals, but the dog of our friends just barks nonstop all night every night regardless of seeing anything or not and I would hate to get a dog the neighbors complain about during the summer (we're remote, but there are neighbors). I know it's not my job to think of the neighbors, but I do have to live near these people and want the friendliest terms I can get. Right now we have a neutered male Alaskan sled dog that hardly ever barks, but seems to keep animals away. So far no problems, knock on wood.

If you want a guard dog, what good is it if it dosn't bark and mark out a territory.
