The Great Pyrenees is a great dog. I posted once then read some more and
feel like writing some more. They have alot of personality. They bond with
things. If you expose the pyrenees to what ever you want it to protect when
it is young it will always protect that. They are smart. If you let a
young dog in with baby chickens and let it bond with them it will never hurt
them later. A young dog is a young dog however and you have to watch them
at first, take it slow and let them in only when you are there at first then
during the day then all night. Same thing for sheep, pigs, etc. We had one
that bonded with the pigs on a dry lot and slept with them all the time.
They used to root at her and chew at her tail and she took it just like they
were her pups. They bond with the family in the same way. Many sheep men
don't get to close to their pyrenees so they bond with the sheep and not
with the humans. they are very affectionate dogs however. Sometimes there
can be a personality clash and the dog won't like you and won't bond with
you no matter what, chances are they will bond with someone else or with the
animals however and all is well. A dog well bonded to stock shouldn't run
as much as one that is bonded to the household. Usually they stay with the
stock. Pyrenees are known for being wanderes though. We had two dogs that
would run when they were together. One that would run anytime. All
females. Our one male dosen't run much over a mile.
