Title: Re: soil improvement Marie – we have a couple of sources for compost in the area. One is from, I think, leaves mostly, possibly from the city of Lawrence, not sure. Another, includes buffalo manure in his, I understand. Both would be expensive because of delivery. I think the actual cost of compost is pretty reasonable. The best compost, naturally, is our own and I can always have enough to add “in the hole” with the transplants – never enough for spreading on the beds. Between our horses and our chickens I can always have a decent compost pile working I just wish I had more leaves but don’t want to rake. When we had a csa we had members donate leaves and our compost was great!
