Is it appropriate to inquire about poultry growing on small farms not
involved with an integrator?
I wonder if the independent poultry producer, whether free range, organic or
whatever, has the infrastructure needed to produce, process and market
poultry outside the sphere of the big integrators. It seems to me that the
demand for fresh poultry, organic and free range poultry is sufficient in the
ethnic and health conscience markets. This would be especially true near the
big cities and military bases with their diverse ethnic populations and the
demand for healthy ingredients.
Is the market for live birds sufficient for the economics or can backyard
processing satisfy the demand?
Are there any thoughts on the viability of independent producers?
