I have berries and grapes planted around the perimeter of an orchard I
started last year and am planning on putting my greens crops between the
trees. I had broiler chickens there last year getting things readied. I
had forgotten until Suzy showed me pictures of the gardens in Italy that
when I was a child my family planted lettuce and like vegetables in the
shade of the orchards during the summer. This was in the foothills of the
Sierras and while here in the maritime northwest I don't have to worry about
heat I do want to utilize space.
