I have to agree with Paul here. I work for a moderate sized utility (gas and
electric). They are spending a fair amount of time and money figuring how
they are going to deal with climate change. People are of differing opinions
about the issue but they recognize that they have to respond to it. The
current goal is to reach 20% generation from renewable sources by 2020. I
strongly suspect that that goal will be improved (on the up side) soon.
Unfortunately we are getting a lot of resistance from the general public to
a new power line which is designed, in part, to increase access to
renewables. NIMBYs (not in my back yard).

There are a lot of very tough decisions people will be making in the next
few years. This is particularly true in large urban areas. Personally I
think many things will be changing in ways we have not yet foreseen. As much
as we might like to stick out heads in some nice deposit of rural sand, this
will touch all of us.

Corporations exist only on paper, they are made up of people not all that
different from you and I. Some are driven by greed, some by idealism, some
by reality. We are all in this together. A solution that works will include
many and exclude very few.

Not to be contentious, but I don't believe for a minute they got 19,000
"scientists" to sign anything. I believe the names are almost all bogus,
few if any are actually knowledgeable climatologists (none are identified
so we can't verify any of them), and I'm certain the website's agenda is to
protect the fossil fuel industries - which is quite clear from this
warning: "The United States is very close to adopting an international
agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that
depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds."
There's the agenda, right up front. We know those energy corporations lie,
cheat, rob, pollute, and kill without blinking. I wouldn't believe a word
coming from them. Bogus to the hilt.

Your mileage may vary ...! We still have plenty of common ground, Ken, and
your contributions to the discussion have been remarkable.
