And monetary value often replaces or removes intrinsic value from things that are intrinsically valuable.

Seems to me trying to convert everything into dollar amounts just isn't the right thing to do anymore.  yes, for budgeting and stewardship, it is good to have an idea of this, but in the end the things that matter the most aren't able to be bought or sold.
