good thought, but i don't think it works. according to my quick readings,
527s are "organized and operated primarily for the purpose of directly or
indirectly accepting contributions or making expenditures, or both, for an
exempt function. The exempt function of a political organization is
influencing or attempting to influence the selection, nomination, election
or appointment of an individual to a federal, state, or local public
office or office in a political organization".
Fox News has easy access to other functions -- while i agree that some of
its activities can fall under this definition, i doubt that constitues its
primary activity. i think primarily (by weight or volume) its activities
will be found in selling advertising or broadcasting infotainment or
something more in line with other "news"-oriented organizations.
this is my argument, not necessarily my conviction, and as such i invite
arguments to the contrary.
