Reported 04.02.20 16:28 from Lee Haslup:

.:From a secular point of view, marriage is a
.:social institution designed to encourage a stable environment for the
.:rearing of children -- a provision for the reproductive potential of the
.:union. Its trivial benefits may be granted, in some part, to the
.:current generation but the intended beneficiaries are the next. Given
.:that the institution looks to the next generation, in order to claim
.:exclusion, someone would have to claim that his or her parents were not
.:one man and one woman.

I don't buy it. This society has an extremely shoddy record at doing
anything "for the children". Sure, the excuse is widely used for
political purposes, but the effects just aren't there. We, as a society,
don't give a rat's ass about the next generation; we don't even give
one for our own. We're only looking out for ourselves.
