I know that some of you have cable modem access with TWC RoadRunner.

Periodically, yes.

We have had it about a month and it doesn't seem very reliable.

How
much uptime should we expect?

Expect the worst, hope for the best, be pleasantly surprised when it works.

It seems to go down a lot.

Yep.

I was
expecting much higher quality than dialup, but it hasn't been the
case.

If dialup weren't *so* slow I'd go running back to it. DSL is not available here. We're both so tired of Time Warner that wifey pooh & I are seriously contemplating a switch to satellite (for both TV & Internet). Satellite is slower though and worse still it has very high latency. But if the quality of service were consistent, it would be worth it to me.

I live at the northeastern end of Orange County, near where Guess Road crosses the Little River. The problems I have seem pervasive throughout my neighborhood, according to friends in the area.

Family members in south Durham, a few miles from South Pointe Mall, have had the kind of consistently good service that I could only dream of.

No matter where you live, the TWC mail & DNS servers have had a bad history. So I run my own DNS server, and keep my mail hosted outside of the TWC network. I'm extremely happy with my DNS service (duh).
