The points about replacing the disposal with a conventional pipe to save
on water, reduce water contamination, create compost, etc. are all well
taken. Ever since the severe drought this summer I pretty much stopped
using my disposal altogether and will probably continue to not use it
very much. HOWEVER I will still replace it since I live in a condo and
when it comes time to sell the place I may have difficulties explaining
why mine doesn't have one when everybody else's does and as a result may
drive away potential buyers or have a harder time selling it for what it
is otherwise worth. In light of that, any advice on what I should expect
to pay for a replacement disposal and the installation of the disposal
would be helpful and appreciated so that I won't get gouged (again) by
an unscrupulous plumber wanting to take advantage of a clueless newbie.
Thanks,
Bill

I tried the compost heap this year, but any time we placed old fruit in
there, it became a breeding ground full of maggots.
The idea was simple, as already stated:
1. Cut down on water usage - we are in a drought
2. Get free compost
What is the secret to getting a maggot free compost heap? I may try this
again.
